Alexander J. Durst, Esq.

Employment. Divorce. Consumer Protection.

Alex Durst is a civil and domestic litigation attorney who focuses his practice mainly in the areas of consumer protection law, divorce/family law, and employment law.

Alex proudly joined Croskery Law Offices in March of 2014. He started his career practicing divorce and family law as a staff attorney in the Cincinnati office of Cordell & Cordell, P.C., the largest “fathers’ rights” law firm in the United States. While at Cordell & Cordell, Alex developed expertise in many complicated issues that arise in divorce, dissolution, post-decree, child custody and child support cases and became skilled at drafting and negotiating important family law agreements.

Alex continues to dedicate a substantial portion of his practice to divorce, child custody, and other family law matters, and takes pride in helping to guide people through extremely difficult times in their lives. He is also proud to practice in the areas of consumer protection law and employment law.

Alex has experience handling “lemon law” cases (suing car manufacturers when a new car turns out to be a “lemon”), “auto fraud” cases (suing used car dealers who defraud customers in a number of different ways, such as by selling a car that was totaled and cheaply rebuilt, without disclosing the previous damage to the buyer) and other cases under the Ohio Consumer Sales Practices Act against businesses that treat their customers unfairly.

Alex is also knowledgeable on the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act (FDCPA) (suing debt collectors who call repeatedly, lie, make unjustified threats and otherwise harass supposed debtors), the Fair Credit Reporting Act (FCRA) (suing credit bureaus over errors on credit reports), the Ohio Business Opportunity Plan Law (the “Franchise Act”) (suing sellers of bogus franchise opportunities who defraud people they sell franchises to) and other Ohio and federal consumer protection laws. Very few attorneys practice consumer protection law, and Alex and Croskery Law Offices are proud to practice in this underserved area and offer representation to victims of unscrupulous businesses who otherwise would have no legal help.

Alex’s employment law experience includes sexual harassment, employment discrimination, wrongful termination and wage-and-hour cases, and he is passionate about representing people who have truly been treated unfairly at work.

Alex is completely fluent in Spanish, having lived in Spain and Argentina. Before law school, Alex worked as a Spanish interpreter at local hospitals and in the court system, interpreting in trials, hearings, depositions, police interrogations, attorney-client meetings and a number of medical settings. As a result of this experience, Alex is exceptionally well-qualified to represent non-English speakers in a variety of legal matters and represents many Spanish-speaking immigrants.

Alex is a 2012 graduate of the Washington University in St. Louis School of Law. While at WashU, Alex was one of several students selected to compete on the Trial Advocacy team, out of approximately fifty students who tried out. Alex received his undergraduate degree – a Bachelor’s Degree in Economics with a minor in Spanish – from the University of Cincinnati, where he graduated Magna Cum Laude and with High Honors in Economics. While at UC, Alex was a four-year member of the Mock Trial team.

Alex serves as a volunteer attorney at the Su Casa Hispanic Center for several hours every Saturday, in which capacity he offers feedback and advice to Spanish-speaking individuals in regards to whatever legal issue(s) they are facing. He also serves on Su Casa’s Advisory Council and is the chair of the Legal Task Force. Additionally, he regularly volunteers as a judge at high school and college mock trial competitions.

Alex, a Cincinnati native and the oldest of three brothers, grew up in Clifton and attended Walnut Hills High School. While he is not practicing law or volunteering, Alex enjoys playing and watching soccer and kayaking and fishing on local rivers and lakes.
